The Local Voice edition april 2010
I’m sure you have seen it or even heard about it and even if you don’t think it’s all that funny, there has to be something you like about it.
No, I’m not talking about Cheryl Cole’s new single.
Yes, it’s MODEL DICTIONARY OF WEXFORD SLANG SAAAN, it arrived on our shelves in December 2009, it took over the lives of many a person from old to young as they shouted profanities from one end of the main street to the other, and so did the young people.
Words and their meanings highlighted with such colour such as “hopped off meaning, to make short work of something” and “cummontaphuck meaning, to tell someone to hurry up”.
Ah yes these are word that can be thrown around so much and still if yer ma shouts cummontaphuck a certain way at ya, you know there’s a box just waiting for ya too saaaaaaaan.
Having read this book many times I have to say that my favourite saying or word of all time in this pocket sized Wexford dictionary has to be the word “jascum meaning, did you ask him”. In these septic tiger recessional times of ours its great to know that somebody, somewhere is going out of their way to bring a smile to our faces and at such a price too at only €9.99 sure you’d be some e-Git not to have one in the house.
THE MODEL OF WEXFORD SLANG SAAAN, can be bought predominately in Wexford town in most book stores and worldwide from www.slang.ie .
